VOICE & TEXT

Monday Evenings, 6:00-9:00pm
February 11 – April 1
Simple Studios, 134 W. 29th St., 2nd floor, NYC
$300
Class size is strictly limited to 10 participants.

This series of eight three-hour workshop sessions is designed to further an actor’s expressivity, skill, confidence and joy in speaking dramatic text.

Exercises will give participants the means to strengthen and grow their voices, connecting voice, body, mind and emotional life in a deeply expressive synchrony, released through language.

Deepen your connection with text.

  • We will spend the first hour of each session doing voice work (primarily Linklater), then move into group and individual work with your chosen text.

  • Participants are invited to bring whatever text(s) they are interested in working on at present.  You may choose to work on a few pieces, or take a deep dive into a single piece of text.

You will choose your piece(s) of dramatic text from any genre, any period.  Texts might be from a play you are currently rehearsing or performing, a monologue you would like to deepen for auditions or just because you like it, a Shakespeare speech or soliloquy you’ve always wanted to tackle – whatever, truly.  The work is designed to deepen your connection to, and broaden your understanding of, any given piece of text.

Discover a new sense of freedom.

Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move in, and that does not restrict your breath in any way.  There is a good floor in the studio, but feel free to bring a yoga mat if you wish, as we will be doing some floor work during most sessions.
